Couponing takes preparation. Sometimes people steer clear of the coupons because of how much time it takes and they feel it does not out weight the benefit. I am here to tell you that it does. There are many products that I have gotten for free solely based on the time I took to research and gather the coupons needed. In this article I will give you the basic tips on how to effectively coupon.

Where To Find Coupons

There are numerous places you can find coupons. One being your local grocery store. They will place coupons at the front entry way on a big board or in the isles near the product. If you take anything away from this it is to not be afraid to rip those coupons off and put them to use, saving $1 is better than nothing.

Another way is to visit websites that offer coupons that are printable or some even mail them right to your house. A few include:

save.ca

websaver.ca

samplesource.ca

https://www.walmart.ca/en/coupons

https://www.pgeveryday.ca/

These are a great way to explore new products or save money on things that you are already buying.

The final way is to take advantage of the applications on your phone that offer money back.

Flipp

Flipp has a coupon section that you are able to highlight all the ones you are interested in using, send them to your email and then print.

Checkout 51

The checkout 51 app offers common products and money back if you upload your receipt. The money is not instant you have to get your account to $20 before you can cash out. To date I have receive $110 back.

Price Matching

This is a crucial part of saving money and not all grocery stores allow you to do this. It is the process of searching each flyer to find the cheapest price for that item. Flipp is the app to do this. You just search the item that you are looking for and scroll through all the options that come up until you find the cheapest price. When you are done your shopping and it is time to ring all of your items through you will show the cashier your clipped price match and they will honour that price for you. For example, if I am buying a pineapple and at the Real Canadian Superstore they have them for $3 but I find it at No Frills for $1 I will clip that in my flipp app and show the cashier when that item is being rang through. They will change the price to $1 so on my final bill I will be paying that price rather than the $3.

My Tips

  1. Start small- Start with one or two items that you are comfortable with. For me this was pantry items. They are a basic price (meaning not payed based on weight) therefore easy to price match. When you get more comfortable you can upgrade to produce and then meats and poultry.

  2. Bring all your coupons- Even if you don’t think you will buy that item bring your coupons. The store may have a surprise sale that you end up getting the item for an even better price.

  3. Practice & Be Prepared- This takes practice, it is something that you can always get better and more creative at. It will come with time. Being prepared is so important. Create your list, have your coupons and price matches ready and organize your cart. Top section for price matched items, lower section for regular priced items.

  4. Better as One- Try to use all of the methods mentioned above together, this way you will be savings the most money you can. And likely if it is on checkout 51 there will be a coupon for it.

Happy Shopping!
